At BLESSED, we’re passionate about creating raffia accessories that combine elegance, authenticity and durability. Our customers often share their favorites with us… But also their little concerns. And one of our most frequent questions is this :
“I bought a raffia bag that I love, but it’s become a little warped over time. Is this normal ? And is there anything I can do to get it back ?”
The answer is : yes, of course. It’s perfectly normal, and the good news is that it’s neither serious nor permanent. All you need to know is how to deal with it.
Understanding the nature of raffia : a living, precious material
First of all, let’s remember what raffia is. It’s a natural plant fiber, extracted from the leaves of a tropical palm tree. Both supple and resistant, it is woven by hand, making each piece unique. It’s this suppleness, this life in the material, that gives each bag its handcrafted charm… But also its vulnerability to external shapes and pressures.
At BLESSED, we work with raffia with a deep respect for this nature : we don’t stiffen our bags excessively, to preserve their living character. This also means that, with time or mishandling, it can warp slightly. And that’s where we come in to guide you.
1. Give it volume, gently
The first thing to do is to gently restructure the inside of the bag. No special tools are needed : a bit of rolled linen, kraft paper, or even a small cardboard box can suffice.
The goal ? Fill the bag without forcing it, so that it gradually regains its shape. Leave it in a dry place for 24 to 48 hours.
This simple gesture often allows the bag to regain its original structure, without further intervention.
2. Use steam… with care
If the bag remains wrinkled or dented, steam can be an excellent ally. But it must be used with respect for the fiber.
Place it on a hanger or stable surface, then diffuse steam from a distance using a steamer or iron (without placing it directly on top). Once the raffia has softened slightly, you can gently shape it with your hands to smooth creases or straighten contours.
This technique works wonders, as long as it’s done at low temperature and without excessive humidity.

3. Prevent future deformations
Once your wonder has regained its silhouette, the important thing is to‘prevent it from becoming deformed again.
Here are a few simple best practices to apply :
- Keep it filled, even when not in use.
- Avoid hanging it too long by its handles.
- Protect it in a breathable fabric cover, away from light and moisture.
- Never fold it into a suitcase without first padding it.
Treating your bag as a valuable object means it will accompany you in style for many years to come.
Looking for a more structured bag ? BLESSED can help
Because each person has a different use and lifestyle, at BLESSED we’ve made the choice to offer raffia bags that can be adapted to your specific needs.

Things to remember
No, a raffia bag that deforms is not a lost bag. It’s simply an authentic material that reacts to its environment in the same way as a fine fabric or natural leather. And with a few simple gestures, you can bring it back to life, stress-free.
And if you’re looking for a design that’s even more in tune with your lifestyle, you can rest assured that we can redesign every single one to suit you. Because for us, a raffia bag isn’t just an accessory:
